AIPWA stands for peace not war

AIPWA welcome the ceasefire amidst escalated tensions between two nuclear armed neighbors India and Pakistan and demands permanent ceasefire and lasting peace. War only brings death, displacement, and devastation, with women, children, and marginalized communities suffering the most.
We salute the peace loving people on both sides of the border who have resisted war mongering and jingoism and called for dialogue. The recent ceasefire, mediated under US intervention exposes the failure of both governments to listen to their own people. Instead of relying on foreign powers, India and Pakistan must restore diplomatic ties, and address terrorism through legal and political means.
AIPWA condemns how in this difficult time, while the mainstream media got a free hand to vehemently spread fake news, hatred and war frenzy, independent media was subjected to censorship and harassment in the name of ‘national security’.
AIPWA also condemns the troll armies targeting women like Himanshi Narwal, Shaila Negi for and others for advocating peace or Col. Sofia Quraishi for upholding constitutional values.
AIPWA strongly demands:

  • A permanent ceasefire along the borders to prevent further civilian casualties and a commitment to diplomatic and legal measures to address the issue of terrorism.
  • An end to war-mongering propaganda that breeds hatred, bigotry and divisive agenda and distracts from real issues like poverty, unemployment, and gender inequality.
  • Solidarity with peace movements in both countries, particularly women-led initiatives that have consistently opposed war and advocated for diplomatic solutions.
  • A thorough investigation of Pahalgam massacre along with exemplary punishment of the perpetrators and addressing security lapses without exploiting the tragedy to justify war.
  • An end to media censorship and witch-hunts against peace activists, journalists, and dissenters.
AIPWA stands with all women, workers, and peace-loving citizens of both countries who reject war and fight for a future of justice, equality, democracy and lasting peace. Across the border, let us say a loud No to another India-Pakistan war and mount pressure for bilateral dialogue.
